Position Overview
The Department of Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Development (OLPD) in the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) seeks to fill an open rank tenured/tenure-track Faculty position in Economics and/or Finance of Education. OLPD is a leader in advancing knowledge about educational and organizational change in local, national, and international contexts. Our research, teaching, and outreach reflect a commitment to interdisciplinary and intercultural engagement with educators, scholars, and policy makers seeking to enhance leadership, policy, and development around the globe.
We are especially interested in candidates with focus and/or interest in understanding the historic and current trends in economics, finance, education budgeting, and the costs and assets of schools, educational organizations, and postsecondary institutions in the US and/or global contexts.
The individual in this position will conduct research and provide instruction related to theory, policy, and practice of budgeting, finance, and economics of education. Expertise in governance, strategies, impacts, and outcomes of the economics of educational institutions and/or organizations is sought. The individual in this position will provide leadership, curriculum development, advising, and instruction within the graduate degree programs in OLPD and may also contribute to instruction in OLPD’s undergraduate programs.
Job Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Research (40%)
Develop and maintain a record of excellence in scholarship pertinent to economics and finance of education, including funded research. Research areas may include:
Theoretical approaches to economics of education, educational funding, budgeting, resource development, and finance management.
Economic analysis of domestic and/or global educational inequity.
Financial stewardship of educational institutions and/or organizations.
Policy implementation and its impacts and implications on educational institutions, staff, students, and communities.
Stakeholder concerns, experiences, and outcomes (including but not limited to students, faculty, staff, and community members).
Teaching and Advising (40%)
Teach two courses per semester (with primary responsibility to graduate education though contributions to undergraduate education are encouraged).
Advise graduate students in program areas in Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Development (a specific program may be identified based on the successful candidate’s preferences and expertise).
Serve on committees of graduate students in Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Development, the College of Education and Human Development, and other units of the University.
Supervise master’s and doctoral research.
Service and Outreach (20%)
Participate in the activities of relevant professional organizations.
Participate in department, college, University, and community service or other outreach activities.
Rank
The position is open rank at the Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate Professor with tenure or Professor with tenure level depending on previous experience. Hire with tenure at the associate professor or professor rank is possible if the successful candidate can demonstrate a record of scholarship that meets the criteria for tenure at the University of Minnesota. This is a 9-month, full-time appointment located on the Minneapolis campus with a target start date of August 2024.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications for All Applicants
An earned doctorate in Applied Economics, Economics of Education, Educational Leadership, Higher Education, or closely related field. Applications from ABD candidates will be considered provided the applicant can document that they are on track to complete the doctorate no later than the start date of this position.

Preferred Qualifications
Strong record of teaching and graduate student advising.
Evidence of familiarity with issues of current trends in finance and economics of education, including its multiple constituencies and stakeholders, policies, and practices with the ability to incorporate related content and ideas in coursework and research.
Previous employment in an educational context working in finance, budgeting, development, or stewardship roles or consulting experience in other applied work in educational organizations focused on policy, practice, or economics of education.
Evidence of technology literacy and online teaching experience.
